How to Set up Poly Phones with Cisco Webex Calling?

Hi, there! It's been a while and I've been talking with some of y'all and thank you for trusting on this blog and thank you so much for trusting on me, that really motivated me to aside time to write this blog post.

I started a new role recently and there have been crazy busy days, that's why I didn't have enough to time. However, I just got back and you know I love sharing these guides and helping the community, so this guide will help you provision your Poly CCX, Poly VVX, and Poly Edge e phones with Cisco Webex calling. You should take a look at the poly supported phones before getting started.

Note: You can add any supported 3rd party phone by following steps written on 1st and 2nd section.

Method 1: Assigning a desk phone to one user from Users menu

Sign into admin.webex.com with your admin account, and under Management select Users -> the user you'd like to assign a desk phone.

In this case, I am gonna work with demo54 and demo55, so select your user.

Click on Devices -> Add Device -> Cisco phone, ATA, or 3rd party device.

On Select a device drop down menu, select Cisco Managed 3rd Party devices

Select the device you're gonna assign to your user. Take a look at this link to know the supported 3rd party phones by Cisco.

Note: You can add any supported 3rd party phone by following this guide. 

Finally, type in your phone's MAC address, and click on Save.

One message will pop up and let you know the device has been added successfully.

Now, we're gonna talk about the second method, if you already completed it, don't worry, skip the next section and jump into the 3rd section on this blog post.

2nd Method: Assigning a desk phone to one user from Device menu

Sign into admin.webex.com with your admin account, and under Management select Users -> the user you'd like to assign a desk phone.

 Select Personal Usage -> Next

Type in user name or email address and click on Next.

Select Cisco phone, ATA, or 3rd party device.

On Select a device drop down menu, select Cisco Managed 3rd Party devices

Setting up Poly phones

Today I am gonna use Poly Edge E Series, but you can follow this guide to set up any supported poly phone by Cisco Webex Calling that runs UC software. Take a look at the 3rd party supported phones by Cisco on this link.

Note: Your phone must be a new one or, you have to perform a factory reset in order to be able to set it up successfully.

Open phone's Web UI, and type in your admin password.

Note: Default password is 456, but it doesn't work, ask your IT team about it.

Go to Settings -> Network -> TLS.

Under TLS Applications,check out Provisioning's options, and under Minimum TLS Version select SSL v2/v3 as minimum TLS version.

 After choosing SSL v2/v3, click on Save.

Go to Settings -> Provisioning Sever.

Now, set server type as HTTPS, boot server as Static and enter one of the server address according with your region.

Your phone will reboot itself and after some minutes, you will be ready to make phone calls.

Device Capabilities

Please read carefully the listed information since it will help you know limitations and supported features.

  • Manual Deployment (No Activations Code or EDOS support)​

  • Individual Device Provisioning through Control Hub (No Bulk)​

  • Locked Device Configuration (No 3rd Party Device Management)​

  • No Device Settings through Control Hub (No configuration overrides)​

  • Assign to users or workspaces

  • Support primary and shared lines

  • Support monitored lines

  • Support standard sip phone features (no advanced feature support

  • Poly devices don’t appear in the Control Hub analytics dashboards and no call quality metrics are available.
  • Poly devices appear in the Devices tab of Control Hub and their Status are displayed.
